Uh-huh, don't hang out with them because I'm jealous and you and your whole family tree are going to be in big trouble if you do. Okay Curtis, I'm leaving. But if you follow my rules, I'm going to be really nice to you. How does that sound? Well frankly, it sounds insane. Yeah I know, so can you help me out? Why is it okay when God does it? Oh, I get where you're going with this. You're talking about the first of the Ten Commandments. Seems like a tough pill to swallow, right? How can a God who's willing to punish children for their parents' actions be described as merciful? Yeah, and how can anyone that is this possessive and offers such seemingly conditional love be the moral and existential role model that God is supposed to be? Well, things might seem bleak, but I think if we dig into this text with some insider knowledge of correspondences, we just may be able to find that love and wisdom that we're looking for.
