Hi, welcome to my website. I'm Sandra Skipper and this is Kony Audiology in Seneca, South Carolina. I've been practicing audiology for 31 years and in Seneca for 24 years. I went to USC in Colombia. After a couple of years at a great state-of-the-art facility, I decided to take the plunge and open my own practice, which I did in 1987. I had that practice for 14 years and eventually took a part-time job in Clemson. After six years of full-time practicing with those EMTs, I took the plunge again and opened my own practice. It's just been great. A lot of my patients come from patient referrals, my patients telling others. I also get a lot of doctor referrals from the area physicians who know me. Hearing loss is the type of ailment that doesn't seem to be present all the time. If you are looking straight at someone who's speaking and they speak clearly and enunciate their words, you could have severe hearing loss and do pretty well under those circumstances. Hearing loss begins to show itself when there are less than ideal conditions present. If someone is walking away or if they are speaking to you from another room, people with hearing loss often delay responses because they're thinking about what was just said and trying to piece the missing parts together. They often just eventually pull back from conversations. Hearing loss is not just an inconvenience, it is also a medical issue. And the longer it is not addressed, the worse the issue gets. Current medical studies are showing atrophy of the auditory cortex area of the brain due to lack of stimulation, which hearing loss causes.
